I have had so much going on that I don’t know where the time is going. August is proving to be a trying month with a lot of change happening for me. The changes are all good but some of them are taking some time to adjust to. New jobs, new activity levels, new book projects, new things on the horizon and yes, life is going pretty good. Which means that I am hesitantly reveling in the normality of my life. Usually when things start to become normal, something happens to turn my world upside down. I’m praying that isn’t the case this time and that the major upheavals are behind me.
I revived an old addiction. Someone clued me in to a freebie from EA Games. Apparently they’re no longer going to service The Sims 2 and have moved on to creating a fourth version. So, they were offering the ultimate collection for free. It has been a long time since I have had access to a computer with it installed. So, I took advantage of the freebie. In what free time I’ve had, I’ve been blissfully playing and living vicariously through my Sims. Their lives are much more interesting to me right now.
Today, I spent the morning playing with Pippin. He’s taken to waking me up with what I affectionately call “the blue bone of doom”. It is this rubber toy he loves. He will get it and climb up on me and drop it on my face. I swear I’ll be amazed if I don’t end up with a black eye from it before he stops. But, regardless, I end up laughing and playing with him when I am up. I wouldn’t trade the persistent little pooch for anything. He is the keeper of my sanity on many days. And I firmly believe that God put me in a former relationship so that I would have this little ball of furry energy. Whatever I might have changed about my past, I wouldn’t change that.
I finally sat down to watch the latest Star Trek film. I am a Trekkie from way back. I really enjoyed it. However, it would have been so much better on the big screen. Most of J.J. Abrams films are that way. It is the same with Michael Bay. So, I will make a point to see the next one in the theater. I don’t go to the movies often but, this is a film franchise that I will make an exception for. We all have our fandoms. Star Trek is mine.
Personally I love what they’ve done with it. I think they’ve really opened it up to a whole new generation of fans and brought it up to date. The casting was well-done and it doesn’t hurt that I have the whole fan-girl crush going on with Benedict Cumberbatch, Chris Pine, and even Karl Urban. I think that seeing them all in their roles in Trek and being able to say that they were awesome is really a testament to their acting ability. I think they have some pretty big shoes to fill.
With all the recent headlines and things happening in the world, I’m choosing to focus on something I enjoy. For now, I need to keep myself positive and upbeat and to that end, I will keep striving to maintain my attitude and not let things bring me down. I’m sure that trend will break eventually but, today is not that day.
